CONSERVATORY SOUNDSCAPE::PARLOUR PAINTINGS
I explore the idea of 'the unfinished' from a perspective based in the arts as a musician/composer and as a visual artist.My multi disciplinary collection of work explores both the interior and exterior of Wallington's architecture and beautiful grounds. The structure of the outdoor space is equally as impressive as the house itself.
With my collection of paintings, I bring elements of the exterior into the interior of the house with a collection of small collaged and painted panels detailing macro images of Northumberland taken in and around the area of Wallington. The paintings are concerned with pictorial space and the perception of the real and exterior of the house. The beautifully kept gardens add to the stunning natural beauty of this area of Northumberland. Paintings are exhibited in the parlour room downstairs:
'Fungus', 'Paint on Paint' and 'Capsicum'.
The soundscape exhibited in the Edwardian conservatory evokes feelings of mystery arising from the enchanting woodland. I wanted to reflect the serenity and tranquility of the grounds whilst portraying the intrigue and the sense of the unknown in exploring its many paths. Whilst visiting the house I felt a real connection to this part of the grounds and wanted to capture the serenity and intrigue and beauty of this part of Wallington. A soundscape puts you in a place by evoking feelings which allow you to create a picture in your head. The music is my response to the sensory experiences of walking through the grounds.
Soundscape by J.Gilberg (flute and steel pan) & P.Thompson (additional material) c 2011, produced by
P. Thompson, based on 'Yangtze' written by J.Gilberg c 2005.
